 General
  • Get a good nights rest before your session.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, this will improve your skin tone and texture.

Clothing

  • Bring the necessary outfits to capture the look you desire.
  • If you want full length photos remember matching shoes and proper hosiery.
  • Solid colors work best for portraits that stand the test of time.
  • If you are self conscious about your arms wear long sleeves.
  • Avoid tight clothing that accentuates what you don’t want accentuated.
  • For group pictures everyone should be in the same color range.
  • Black and white outfits as well as earth tone outfits convert well to black and white and sepia prints.

Make-Up & Hair Styles

  • Bring essentials like lipstick or gloss.
  • Avoid foundation that is a different color than your chest or arms.
  • Use enough powder to avoid and oily shine.
  • Avoid dark eye shadow it tends to make eyes look deeper set.
  • Men shave! Unless you are looking for the rugged look.
  • Haircuts and perms should be a week or two old.
  • If your hands are to be in the photo make sure they are well manicured, gentlemen that doesn’t mean painted but it does mean nails clean and trimmed.
  • If your going barefoot or wearing open toed shoes get a pedicure.

Props

  • In general less is more, however, props can show your personality and lifestyle.
  • Effective props include: flowers, jackets, uniforms, hats, sunglasses, sports equipment, musical instruments and sunglasses.
