Portrait Tips
General
- Get a good nights rest before your session.
- Drink plenty of fluids, this will improve your skin tone and texture.
Clothing
- Bring the necessary outfits to capture the look you desire.
- If you want full length photos remember matching shoes and proper hosiery.
- Solid colors work best for portraits that stand the test of time.
- If you are self conscious about your arms wear long sleeves.
- Avoid tight clothing that accentuates what you don’t want accentuated.
- For group pictures everyone should be in the same color range.
- Black and white outfits as well as earth tone outfits convert well to black and white and sepia prints.
Make-Up & Hair Styles
- Bring essentials like lipstick or gloss.
- Avoid foundation that is a different color than your chest or arms.
- Use enough powder to avoid and oily shine.
- Avoid dark eye shadow it tends to make eyes look deeper set.
- Men shave! Unless you are looking for the rugged look.
- Haircuts and perms should be a week or two old.
- If your hands are to be in the photo make sure they are well manicured, gentlemen that doesn’t mean painted but it does mean nails clean and trimmed.
- If your going barefoot or wearing open toed shoes get a pedicure.
Props
- In general less is more, however, props can show your personality and lifestyle.
- Effective props include: flowers, jackets, uniforms, hats, sunglasses, sports equipment, musical instruments and sunglasses.
